Speed Limits Changed at Installation Gates

The 50th Security Forces Squadron and 50th Space Wing Safety Office have recently changed the speed limits at each installation gate to 15 mph. Security Forces would like to ensure the public is aware of the change as some personnel may still be accustomed to the previous speed limit.

 

Children of Valor wrestling club holds POW/MIA Scrimmage, opens registration
The Children of Valor will be in action Jan. 13 at the base fitness center and would like to invite all Schriever personnel to attend.  The Children of Valor will be scrimmaging in honor of POW/MIA service members past and present. Doors will open at 5:15 p.m. with wrestling beginning promptly at 6 p.m. and concluding at 7 p.m. If you have any questions or to register your child for the team, please contact Coach Morris Thomas via email at morris.thomas@us.af.mil or at airman265@gmail.com.

 

The Children of Valor would also like to invite all Schriever dependents (military and civilian) to join our team. We are a USA wrestling chartered club and part of the Peak 2 Peak League. We are a traveling competition team seeking dedicated youth athletes to compete with us. We accept boys and girls, ages 4-15. Practice times are 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays at the Tierra Vista Housing Multi-Purpose room, 300 Hartinger Circle, here on Schriever Air Force Base. Vanpool to Schriever - Woodmen/Powers Walmart
Take advantage of a vanpool. The government provides the cost per rider per month to pay for the commuter van. So join our van pool. The route includes Woodmen/Powers Walmart (pick up 6:15 a.m.). The final destination is Schriever Air Force Base with arrival times between 6:45 - 7 a.m. Monday-Friday. Call (719) 567-3428 for more information.

Chapel hosts women’s Bible study

Come join us for a women’s Bible study held 9:30 – 11 a.m. every Tuesday at the Tierra Vista Community Center. There will be fellowship, Bible study and conversations about today's critical issues from a Christian perspective. For more information, call the chapel at 567-3705.

 

Chapel offers family Christian fellowship

1 SOPS 25th Anniversary
Calling all 1st Space Operations Squadron alumni; 1 SOPS is hosting a 25th Anniversary Celebration Jan. 27 at the Mining Exchange Hotel (8 S. Nevada Ave). 50 SW to observe time capsule unearthing
The 50th Space Wing is opening and replacing the time capsule located in the northwest corner of the Building 210 courtyard during a ceremony at 3 p.m. Jan. 30. The time capsule contains mementos from wing organizations depicting life at Schriever in 2002 and will be revealed during the ceremony. The time capsule will be sealed with its new contents and a date for recovery based on the wing’s 100th anniversary, June 1, 2049. Refreshments will be provided.

The Schriever Clinic will be closed the following dates/times:

Note: The clinic closes Wednesdays at 3:30 p.m. for physical training. Normal clinic hours: 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. The clinic will close 3:30 p.m. Thursdays beginning in January. For emergencies, call 911. For appointments, call 524-CARE.

 

Fitness center hosts Bench Press, Dead Lift competition
Are you the strongest?  Lift the greatest percentage of bodyweight and prove it!  A Bench Press/Deadlift competition will be held 9 a.m. Jan. 27 at the Fitness Center. There will be prizes for the top three males and top three females.  Competitors may participate in one or both events, but only those who participate in both events will be eligible for prizes.  Registration will be limited and all participants must pre-register by noon Jan. 25. Floorball (Floor hockey) now available

The 50th Comptroller Squadron is closed for training the second Tuesday of each month. Upcoming dates include: Feb. 14 and March 14.

Denver Nuggets hosts Hoops for Troops
The Denver Nuggets are hosting Hoops for Troops Military Appreciation Night starting 3 p.m. Feb. 26. At the Pepsi Center. Upper level tickets are $17 and Lower/Club Tickets are $47. Society opens door to military widows   

The Society of Military Widows is open to widows of any branch of military service, regardless of the spouse’s rank. The Pikes Peak Chapter 15 of the Society of Military Widows meets 10:30 a.m. the last Wednesday of the month at the Peterson Air Force Base club. Academy cadet sponsor program looking for volunteers

The U.S. Air Force Academy is looking for volunteer sponsor families to build a professional mentoring relationship and provide a home-away-from-home for cadets. The program needs about 180 families to sponsor cadets. Sponsors must be at least O-3 for officers, E-6 for enlisted and GS-05 for civilian. The program is designed to provide new cadets mentorship, offering active-duty and retired military personnel and civilians in the community an opportunity to mentor cadets on a permanent basis for their time at the Academy.
