50th SW activates 750th OG

SCHRIEVER AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. (June 19, 2020) –

“Activating the 750th Operations Group is a critical step at a critical time. I look forward to leading and working with the outstanding professionals who serve as our front line of defense in space,” said Col. Casey Beard, 750th OG commander.

The 750th OG will enable improved focus on orbital warfare and allow the 50th Operations Group to better focus on delivering GPS and satellite communication capabilities.

The new force structure improves readiness, stimulates the development of orbital warfare operational concepts and tactics, institutionalizes the Space Force culture for space warfighting, and streamlines force presentation to Joint force commanders.

“[Our adversaries] are actively pursuing capabilities to deny us access to space,” said Beard. “That is why the 750th [OG] exists.”

Today’s space cadre is required to operate in a complex and competitive strategic environment and defend against threats that are multi-faceted and multi-domain. The protect and defend force structure will optimize the development, presentation, and employment of space warfighting forces.

This new force structure effectively shifts space into a warfighting domain as outlined in the 2018 National Defense Strategy, and is fundamental to adapting national security organizations, policies, doctrine, and capabilities as outlined in space policy.

“Sometimes we take for granted history being made right before our eyes,” said Col. James Smith, 50th Space Wing commander and ceremony presiding official. “I challenge all of you, especially the commanders of the 750th OG and the support units of the 750th, to see where you stand and that you are responsible for continuing the legacy. Let’s make some history.”
