Air Force reduces TA
The fiscal year limit for Military Tuition Assistance has decreased from $4,500 to $3,750, effective immediately. The credit hour limits remain the same at $250 per semester hour and $166.66 per quarter hour. All TA applications will be routed using the normal procedures on the AF Virtual Education Center, and can be submitted up to 45 days in advance of the start of the course.

Fire Department to visit housing
The Schriever Fire Department will visit several locations in the Tierra Vista housing community Friday from 10-11:30 a.m. Sparky the fire dog will hand out fire safety items to children and their families. Sparky asks each family to develop and practice their home fire escape plan. Also, remember to “Serve up fire safety in the kitchen.”

SFS will confiscate expired CACs
50th Security Forces Squadron members will confiscate all expired Common Access Cards at the gate. For dependent family and retiree population only, ID (non-CAC) card expirations have been extended to June 30, 2021. CACs may be reissued due to expiration, authorized rank and/or name changes. El Paso County remains in Stage II fire restrictions
El Paso County has extended Stage II fire restrictions. This includes Peterson and Schriever Air Force Bases and Cheyenne Mountain Air Force Station.
The following activities and items are prohibited:
- Campfires at camps and picnic grounds
- Model rockets
- Public prescribed burning/burn permits
- Outdoor smoking
- Sale or use of fireworks
- Outdoor cooking (grilling, except propane)
- Outdoor fires
50th FSS hosts trunk decorating contest
The 50th Force Support Squadron is scheduled to host a Halloween car-trunk decorating contest, Oct. 30 from 3-5 p.m. at the base event center. First place will receive a $500 prize, second place a $300 prize and third place will receive a $200 prize. Sign up before Oct. 19 to register. MCS updates hours
The Peterson Military Clothing Store has updated its hours to 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Saturday. The MCS will remain closed Sundays.
Force Development Flight relocates
The Schriever Force Development Flight and Education and Training Center is now relocated throughout Bldg. 210 as their office is undergoing renovations.
To mitigate disruption to the shared customer service spaces that the Force Development Flight will occupy, members are encouraged to call ahead for all services, e.g. career assistance advisor, education counseling, tuition assistance and GI Bill.
All Force Development Flight phone numbers will remain the same and will be transferred to their temporary locations.

Clinic suspends over-the-counter program indefinitely
The 21st Medical Squadron pharmacy has suspended the over-the-counter medication program indefinitely to ensure patients are receiving the appropriate level of care and assessment due to ongoing events.

Airmen host “Storytellers: Behind the Mask”
A “Storytellers: Behind the Mask” event is scheduled for 9-11 a.m. Thursday at the Peterson Air Force Base Auditorium. Storytellers is a three-part speaker series that invites Airmen to share their experiences on a range of topics including suicide, sexual assault, domestic violence and racism. Part one will be focused on stories about suicide. The dates for part two and three are to be determined.

Safety office urges Airmen to not drive distracted
October is Distracted Driving Awareness Month. Always practice the following safety tips:
- Don't multi-task.
- Never use a phone while driving.
- Keep your eyes on the road.
- Don’t eat or drink while driving.
- Never drive drowsy.
- Avoid complicated tasks.
Avoid slips, trips and falls
According to the Occupational safety and Health Administration, slips, trips and falls are among the most common causes of workplace injuries. Good housekeeping practices reduce the potential for slip, trip and fall incidents. To prevent slips and trips, ensure all walking and working surfaces are free from hazards such as:
- Uneven floors
- Extension cords or other cables (use a cable tray if needed)
- Leaks and spills
- Trash, boxes or containers
- Open drawers and cabinets
- Loose mats or rugs
- Slippery surfaces
- Poor lighting in the area
- Unmarked level changes
