While inactive as a component of the Air Force Reserve, the 50th Fighter-Interceptor Wing was relieved from control of the AF Reserve and assigned to the active-duty Air Force pending activation Nov. 15, 1952.  It was also renamed.  What was the wing's new designation?  It was renamed 50th Fighter-Bomber Wing and subsequently activated Jan. 1, 1953 at Clovis Air Force Base, New Mexico.
