SCHRIEVER AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- Dec. 22 marks the first day of winter, but don't wait until then to learn how to stay warm and in regulations while in uniform. Schriever's first sergeants want to ensure all Team 5-0 members aren't left out in the cold wearing the wrong uniform items.
"We really want members of Team 5-0 to know the rules and guidelines that are specific to Schriever," said Senior Master Sgt. Tiffany Lewandowski, 50th Operations Group first sergeant.
According to Air Force Instruction 36-2903 Dress and Personal Appearance of Air Force Personnel, installation commanders may supplement the dress and personal appearance instruction with guidance specific to the installation.
"People want to inherently do the right thing, we just want to make sure people are aware of the rules and are aware of any specifics as far as Schriever is concerned," said Master Sgt. Phillip Miller, 50th Mission Support Group first sergeant.
One Schriever example is 50th Space Wing personnel can wear the sage green fleece indoors while in immediate work areas only.
"Immediate work area means just that," said Lewandowski. "That doesn't mean at commander's calls in the auditorium or eating in the dining facility. It means your immediate work area."
The first sergeants recommend if you see a uniform violation, take the time and responsibility to respectfully correct the situation.
"Explain what's wrong whether it's purple gloves or something else, but be nice about it," said Miller. "People don't intentionally try to see what they can get by with, so if people are making a mistake, it's probably because they didn't know any better."
