SCHRIEVER AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- Schriever Airmen, commanders and other Team 5-0 members teamed up for a bowling tournament and pizza party Friday, Nov. 6, 2015, at the Peterson Air Force Base bowling alley.

The 50th Space Wing first sergeants sponsored the free event for Airmen who live in the dorms.

Master Sgt. Phillip Miller, 50th Mission Support Group first sergeant, explained the event was more important than just taking a break from the work week.

"We don't want our Airmen to see the first sergeants as always in a disciplinary role," said Miller. "We want them to see us as part of the team and somebody they can come to if they're ever in trouble. If they see us only as disciplinarians, they won't come to us if something is wrong, so this is important to build these relationships."

Young space operators, personnel specialists, finance administrators and other unit representatives took to the lanes and worked together to achieve the highest combined scores.

"It was wonderful, we had a team out there hitting strikes and stuff, some people not doing too well, but we had fun," laughed Airman 1st Class Jailen Holt, 50th Space Communications Squadron.

Airman Michael Gibson, 50th Force Support squadron, said that the event was a good opportunity to meet people.

"It's a team builder and a morale booster," said Gibson. "It's great having different shops come together where people might not know each other."

Commanders also joined their Airmen to battle it out against other units.
"[The event] gave all the commanders the opportunity to be out here with their dorm Airmen and spend that time with them to build face-to-face relationships," said Miller.

The bowling alley was packed- more than the number of lanes could support. Airman 1st Class Phillip Cheong, 4th Space Operations Squadron, bowled for the highest score of 231, leading his team to victory with a combined score of 794. His teammates were Chief Master Sgt. John Bentivegna, 50 SW command chief, Airman 1st Class Krystal Conkling, 50 SW command section and 4 SOPS members Airman 1st Class Xavier Brezniak and Airman Tyler Cockrum.
