SCHRIEVER AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- Staff Sergeant Release Ceremony
The Staff Sergeant Release Celebration will be Aug. 20, at 3 p.m. in the Base Fitness Center.  Please come out and support the Wing Staff Sergeant Selects.

Commander Holds Meeting With SAFB Civilians
The 50th Space Wing commander is hosting a meeting open to all Schriever Air Force Base civilian employees Monday, Aug. 24, in the Bldg. 300 Auditorium from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30.p.m. The intent of this meeting is to provide an update on current civilian issues and address any concerns pertaining to current position funding initiatives.

Subway Food Truck comes to Schriever
A Subway mobile food vender will be on Schriever each Wednesday starting Aug. 26. Army-Air Force Exchange Service has arranged the truck to be on base from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. They will leave sooner if they run out of product. The vendor will be set up on the north side of the Airman and Family Readiness Center, Building 101. They will feature a limited Subway menu for purchase.  There will be approximately 400 sandwiches available on the truck.

Schriever AFB hosts Holocaust Remembrance Day Program
All Schriever personnel are invited to attend the Holocaust Remembrance Day Program at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 26. It will be held in the Bldg. 300 Auditorium. The schedule will include an interview and a Q & A lunch session with Holocaust Survivor, David Bram. Space will be limited, so please arrive early to secure your seat. Additionally, there will be a reflective balloon release ceremony and Holocaust Exhibit at the Base Fitness Center. Please contact 1st. Lt Prittany White at 719-567-3098 for more information.

Schriever AFB Hosts Diversity Day Event
All Schriever personnel are invited to attend the Diversity Day Program at 10 am, Friday, Aug. 28. It will be held in the Base Fitness Center. The schedule will include cultural performances, ethnic food sampling, educational booths and children's activities. For more information or volunteer opportunities, please contact Capt. STEM Rocks! festival welcomes all, volunteers needed
The Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Rocks Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 29, at the Peterson Air and Space Museum (corner of Peterson Boulevard and Ent Avenue). The hands-on STEM activities for kindergarten to eighth graders are meant to increase interest in STEM fields, as well as provide fun for the whole family. Kids will be able to make slime, launch rockets, run underwater rovers, investigate dinosaurs and more at STEM Rocks! Please contact Capt. Leilani Distaso at 719-556-4228 for more information.

They are also seeking volunteers for the event. STEM Rocks! needs volunteers Aug. 28 and 29 to set-up, provide food, security and tear-down. Anyone interested in volunteering can contact the volunteer coordinator team 1st Lt. Nathaniel Flack, Master Sgt. Rebecca Alaniz, Tech. Sgt. James Baker or Jeffrey Nash. Volunteers will also receive a free event shirt.

Military Retirees Activities Office holds luncheon
The Military Retiree Activities office holds a luncheon at noon the second Thursday of each month at the Peterson Air Force Base Club, followed by its monthly council meeting at 2:30 p.m. in Building 350, Room 1206. The guest speaker for Sept. 10, is Chaplain Boarts from the Peterson AFB Chapel. For more information, contact Randall Barrett at 719-556-7153.

SAFB September 11th Remembrance Ceremony
Schriever AFB will host a 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony starting with reveille at 7:30 a.m. at the September 11 tribute on base. This will be followed by a short ceremony to commemorate this important day and the impact it has had on us all. The ceremony will end by 8:30 a.m. to ensure members can board the buses to Ft. Carson for the main event starting at 10 a.m.

Ft. Carson holds 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony
All Schriever personnel are invited to attend the 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Sept. 11, at Gate one outside of Fort Carson. Parking is available on base, and carpooling is encouraged. Round trip transportation will be provided to Schriever personnel, but it is limited. Two buses are reserved and will depart Schriever Air Force Base at 9 a.m. Those interested in taking the bus should contact 2nd Lt. David Mulqueen or 2nd Lt. Kenneth Mackenthun. The uniform for the ceremony is service dress for active duty, and coat and tie for civilians.

Society opens door to military widows
The Society of Military Widows is open to widows of any branch of military service, regardless of the spouse's rank. The Pikes Peak Chapter 15 of the Society of Military Widows meets at 10:30 a.m. on the last Wednesday of the month at the Peterson Air Force Base Club. On Thursday, Sept. 17, they will be celebrating their 35th anniversary. There will be a luncheon at 11:30 a.m. at the Olive Garden at Citadel Crossing. Save money, use vanpool - Falcon, Seat Available: Castle Rock Vanpool to Schriever
Space is available on the van that originates from Falcon Wal-Mart (Woodmen and Meridian Market View Road).

Is the wear and tear of commuting taking a bite out of your car and your wallet?  Is the driving causing too much stress?  Take advantage of vanpool!  Government, civil service and active duty military service members receive a government mass transit benefit to offset commuting costs. The government provides $130 per rider per month to pay for the commuter van.  DOD civilians and uniformed military personnel are eligible. The route includes the Castle Rock, Monument and Black Forest/Woodmen areas. The final destination is at Schriever Air Force Base with arrival times between 7 and 7:15 a.m., Monday-Friday, with departure at 4:30 pm.
