-- Career Technical Track: 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., July 16-17, Peterson AFB
The Airman and Family Readiness Center will host a Technical Training Track at Peterson A&FRC. With all the changes to Transition Assistance Program, providing training or classes on a variety of options for new career choices is recommended. One of the "tracks" is the Technical Training Track, geared towards those who will be pursuing a technical career. This class will provide information on what is expected in terms of education, experience, certifications and much more. Call to sign up.

-- Children's Mock Deployment Line: 10 a.m. - 12 p.m., July 17
The A&FRC is hosting a Children's Mock Deployment Line at the Base Picnic.  The event will begin in a deployment tent and will consist of check-in, mock immunizations, camo face painting, departure to deployed location, marching clinic, K-9 demonstration, homecoming and much more. -- Capstone: 8:30 - 11:30 a.m., July 20
Separating/retiring members completing pre-separating counseling on/after Sept. 1, 2013 must complete DD Form 2958. Members must attend the capstone preliminary review to have their form verified and then have the form verified and signed by their unit commander or designee. The completed form must be returned to the A&FRC. Form must be completed no later than 90 days before your separation/retirement.

-- Pre-Separation Briefing: 8 - 10 a.m., July 21 & August 4; 2 - 4 p.m., July 28
This is the first step to separating or retiring from the military and the briefing is mandatory.  This briefing will cover registering for e-benefits, beginning an individual transition plan and learning about the benefits and services available when you leave the military. Documentation of this briefing is accomplished through the completion of DD 2648. If you are a year from separation or two years from retirement, start the process. Contact the A&FRC at 567-3920 to sign up.

-- Bundles for Babies: 2 - 4:30 p.m., July 22
This class is for all Air Force and DOD Civilian families who are awaiting the birth of a child. Learn about the costs of having a baby and raising a child as well as the health of the mother, identifying changes and stress that come with new parenthood and resources available on- and off-base. Every family receives a goody-filled "Bundle" of baby items and supplies.

-- Key Spouse Training: 8 a.m. - 12 p.m., July 23
This training is required for new Key Spouses. Training includes official guidance on the Key Spouse program and familiarization with the various resources on base and in the local community in order to appropriately assist AF families. Call the 567-3920 for more information or to sign up.

-- Federal Employment Workshop: 9 - 11 a.m., July 29
Learn about the steps in your process of applying for federal employment. It is helpful to become familiar with www.usajobs.gov before coming to the class.

-- Readiness Briefing: 8 - 10 a.m., August 5
Mandatory briefing for personnel 30-60 days out from deployment, 365 or remote tasking. Spouses are welcome and encouraged to attend.

-- Dress for Success: 9 - 11 a.m., August 6
Learn how to dress professionally for success in the civilian job market. For more information or to sign up, call 567-3920.

-- Summer Slam Base Picnic Family Fun Run: 8 a.m., July 17
Start the day off with a family fun run/walk on the path behind the Fitness Center.  No registration necessary.  Please arrive no later than 7:45am for pre-race instructions.  Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 male and female finishers.

-- Lifeguards needed for Tierra Vista pool
The Fitness Center is looking for lifeguards for the Tierra Vista community pool.  Lifeguard will be required to work Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 6 a.m. - 2 p.m.  Call 567-6658 for more information or check out www.nafjobs.org

-- 11th Annual Duathlon:  10 a.m., July 24
The 11th Annual SAFB Duathlon will be held at 10 a.m. on July 24.  The format will be 1-mile run, 12-mile bike ride, 1-mile run. There will be t-shirts for the first 100 finishers and prizes for the top 3 male and female finishers.  If you would like to register for the event, please call 567-6658.  Registration ends 12 p.m., July 22 and space is limited.

-- 11th Annual Duathlon Volunteers Needed
The Fitness Center is looking for a few good Airmen to help out with the 11th Annual SAFB Duathlon on July 24.  If you would like to volunteer for this event, please contact Seth Cannello at 567-6658.

-- 14er Hike:  8 a.m., August 7
The Fitness Center is hosting a 14er Hike on August 7.  The hike has a strict 8 hour time limit.  Participants provide their own transportation but must register by COB August 5.  Hike is difficult in nature.  Only those with an excellent fitness level and in good health should sign-up.  For more information call 567-6628.

-- Single Airman Initiative Program: 14er Hike
The Fitness Center is hosting a Single Airman Initiative Program 14er Hike on August 7.  This free event is open to all single Airmen assigned to Schriever AFB and space is limited.  Transportation to and from the hike is provided to the first 10 single Airman.  For more information about this trip or the Single Airman Initiative Program call 567-6628.

-- Egg Shortage Affecting the DFAC
As you may be aware, due to an outbreak of Avian Bird Flu, all sectors of the commercial food service industry will be dealing with a significant reduction in available egg products for the foreseeable future.  They are currently estimating the shortage will last about 18 months. Of course, Air Force food service operations are not immune to the egg shortage and we must make some menu changes to ride out the storm.  The following actions have been directed by AF Food Service to take affect 1 July; Customers will be limited to only one (1) egg entrée per meal (i.e. 2 fried eggs, one omelet, one portion of scrambled eggs, breakfast sandwich, etc.) Limit offering French Toast to twice weekly (Tuesdays & Thursdays) Limit use of eggs on Salad Bar to twice weekly. Additionally, we are expecting a price increase of approximately 123% on eggs and 93% on liquid eggs.  AF is currently re-working recipes to reduce the amount of eggs needed. We appreciate your understanding.

Are you looking for hourly care for your school-age children 5-12 years? The School-Age Program offers hourly care for just $4 per hour. Parents may call the SAP for more details, to inquire about availability and to sign-up.

-- 2015-2016 Before and After School Program
The School-Age Program is enrolling children in the before and after school care program for the 2015-2016 school year.  Registered children will enjoy structured activities, various clubs, games, and outdoor activities.  Before and after school care is offered to children residing in District 22 (Ellicott School District).  School bus transportation is provided daily to and from school.  Children residing in District 49 will be eligible for care on scheduled school closures and snow days.  Reservations must be made in advance to ensure care is available.  Please call 567-2850 for more information.
