Pharmacy implements changes to improve services

SCHRIEVER AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- The pharmacy has adopted a new refill process that enables patients to order refills 24/7 via the Pikes Peak Area Automated Refill System. Patients should call the new refill number, 524-4081, and follow the prompts to refill their prescriptions. To pick up refills at Schriever's pharmacy, patients need to choose option five.

Refills called in before noon Monday through Friday will be available for pick-up the following duty day. Refills called in after noon Monday through Friday, and on weekends or holidays, may be picked up in two duty days.

Patients can still call the pharmacy directly, but are encouraged to use this new service to streamline the process. Patients are reminded not to wait until the last minute to call in refills. Refills can be called in when 75 percent of the day supply has been used - such as 68 days for a 90-day supply or 23 days for a 30-day supply.

Additionally, military treatment facilities in the Pikes Peak region (Schriever, Peterson, Evans Army Medical Center and the Air Force Academy) have adopted a joint, uniform formulary. The 200 plus products added to the pharmacy's formulary include more dosage forms, strengths and new medications. Since some medications may be new and will need to be ordered for the first time, allow a longer turnaround time of up to three duty days.

New pharmacy hours of operations are Monday, Wednesday and Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Tuesday and Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. As always, the pharmacy is open during lunch hours.

The pharmacy is always looking for ways to improve operations. Patients are encouraged to fill out comment cards to let the pharmacy know how they are doing and how their experience was during their visit.

For more information, contact the pharmacy at 567-4423.
