SCHRIEVER AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- TEDxSchriever presents Selflessness
TEDxSchriever is 1 p.m. May 15 in the Building 300 auditorium. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDxSchriever is a local, self-organized event that brings people together to share a TED-like experience. The theme for the event is "Selflessness." Live speakers include Helen Thorpe, Steve Hitchcock, Thea Wasche, Airman 1st Class Samuel Stone, Lt. Col. Todd Benson and U.S. Air Force Academy Band Blue Steel to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The event will also feature TEDTalks videos focusing on the theme. Society opens doors to military widows                                                                                                                
The Society of Military Widows is open to widows of any branch of military service, regardless of the spouses rank. The Pikes Peak Chapter 15 of the Society of Military Widows meets on the last Wednesday of the month at 10:30 a.m. at the Peterson Air Force Base Club. Vanpool opens at Castle Rock                                                                                                                              
Space is available in Castle Rock to Schriever vanpool. It departs Castle Rock at 6 a.m. and arrives at Schriever at 7:15 a.m. For more information, contact 1st Lt. Peter Forde at 567-5258.

Buy Elitch Garden tickets                                                                                                                                       
The Information, Tickets and Tours/Outdoor Recreation Office is now selling discounted Elitch Gardens amusement park tickets. Season passes, one-day passes, meal vouchers and parking passes can all be purchased at the ITT/ODR in Building 300, Room 133. Buy early to take advantage of "pre-season" specials. Stop by the office or call 567-6050 for any questions.
 
Fitness center main parking lot closed for resurfacing                                                                                       
The Schriever Fitness Center main parking lot is being resurfaced until May 15.  During this time, the main parking lot will be closed.  Please use the upper parking lot until the resurfacing is complete.  For more information, call 567-6628.

Save money, use vanpool                                                                                                                                          
Is the wear and tear of commuting taking a bite out of your car and your wallet?  Is the driving causing too much stress?  Take advantage of a vanpool!  Government civil service and active-duty military may receive a mass transit benefit to offset commuting costs.   Some companies may also offer mass transit benefits.  So join our van pool. The route includes the South Denver, Castle Pines/Rock, Monument, Black Forest/Woodmen  area. Final destination is Schriever Air Force Base with arrival times between 7 and 7:15 a.m., Monday-Friday.  Call (719) 359-0343 for more information.
 
Air Force offers summer internship program

Women's locker room closed May 20                                                                                                                  
The women's locker room at the Schriever Fitness Center will be closed 9 a.m.-2 p.m. May 20 for electrical work.  The women's locker room will be unavailable for use during this time. Please call the fitness center at 567-6628 for more information.

Cape Fox offers Motorcycle Training Courses                                                                                          
Registration for the Advanced Rider Course through Cape Fox has begun.  This course will fulfill required intermediate and refresher motorcycle training for military riders.  Interested riders should contact their Unit Motorcycle Safety Representative for more details.  Classes will be held at the Motorcycle Training Academy at Chapel Hills Mall beginning on June 6, with other classes available throughout the summer.  There are only 30 class seats available. How to find and apply for federal service                                                                                                          
The Schriever Airman & Family Readiness Center and the Schriever Civilian Personnel Office team up to bring you the steps you need to know in your process of applying for federal employment. It is helpful to become familiar with www.usajobs.gov before coming to the class. The class is 9 - 11 a.m. May 20, at the Airman & Family Readiness Center, Bldg. 101. Please call 567-3920 to sign up.

Fitness Center to operate under Holiday Hours May 22-25

KEEP Training for Civilian Supervisors                                                                                                                    
The Schriever Civilian Personnel Office is offering a Knowledge Enhanced Employee Program for supervisors of civilian employees. The class will cover topics such as filling positions, disciplinary actions, time/attendance, 971 files, and awards. The next class is  8 a.m. to 12 p.m. May 28 Bldg. 210, Room 310. A&FRC provides pre-separation counseling briefing                                                                                          
The Airman and Family Readiness Center will host a pre-separation counseling briefing 2 to 4 p.m. May 19. This is the first step to separating or retiring from the military and the briefing is mandatory. Discussion will include registering for e-benefits, beginning an individual transition plan and the benefits and services available when you leave the military. Documentation of this briefing is accomplished through the completion of Department of Defense Form 2648. If you are a year from separation or two years from retirement, start the process. Call the A&FRC at 567-3920 to sign up.

2015 Rocky Mountain Volleyball Tournament May 16 at the Fitness Center                                              
Schriever Air Force Base will host the 2015 Rocky Mountain Volleyball tournament on May 16 at the Fitness Center.  One team from the U.S. Air Force Academy, Peterson, Buckley, and Schriever Air Force Base and Ft. Sky Sox ticket vouchers available now                                                                                                     
Information, Tickets and Tours has free ticket vouchers for the June 4, 7:05 p.m. Military Appreciation Game.  Vouchers can be picked up from ODR/ITT in Bldg. 300, Wizards Brew in Bldg. 210, or at the Fitness Center.  Vouchers must be redeemed prior to the game at the Sky Sox box office. A&FRC offers the Career Technical Training Track                                                                                              
The Airman and Family Readiness Center will host a technical training track at the U.S. Air Force Academy  A&FRC . With all the changes to the Transition Assistance Program, providing training or classes on a variety of options for new career choices is recommended. One of the "tracks" is the technical training track, geared towards those who will be pursuing a technical career. This class will provide information on what is expected in terms of education, experience, certifications and much more. The class will be from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. May 14-15. Buckley to host Tri-Wing Sports Day                                                                                                                                               
The Tri-Wing Sports Day is being held at Buckley Air Force Base May 20.  This all-day event features participants from the three front-range bases (Schriever, Peterson, Buckley).  We will be participating in ball hockey, basketball, bowling, cornhole, cycling, flag football, foosball, golf, powerlifting, soccer, softball, swimming, table tennis, tennis, video gaming and volleyball. The wing is seeking out participants to help lead Schriever to a win. If interested please contact Lt. Veterans Administration coming to Airman & Family Readiness Center                                                                
The Schriever A&FRC will host the VA class from 8 a.m.to 3:30 p.m. May 15 at the A&FRC, Building 101. Information will be offered about the benefits transitioning military members, may be entitled to, as they leave the military, such as VA home loans, Montgomery GI Bill and Post 9-11 MGIB, disability benefits, and more. This class is mandatory for separatees and retirees as part of the Transition GPS program. Please call 567-3920 to sign up for the class.

Sponsor a Cadet                                                                                                                                                         
The U.S. Air Force Academy is looking for volunteer sponsor families to build a professional mentoring relationship and provide a home-away-from-home for the cadets.  Eligible sponsors are O-3 and above; E-6 and above; GS-05 and above.  Cadets will meet their sponsors at the Doolie Day Out event July 18.The deadline to sign up for the Doolie Day Out event is July 2. 1C6 Roadshow Briefing comes to Schriever                                                                                                                                            
The 1C6 career field manager and Air Force Space Command  functional manager  will be at Schriever Air Force Base 12:45 p.m. in the building 300 auditorium May 14, to provide a briefing, with question and answer period, on present and future space operations career field manning and direction. All 1C6 personnel are invited to attend. Any questions may be directed to Master Sgt. Blair Burdick at 567-4151.

Crime Prevention Tip                                                                                                                                                 
Do not use a debit card to shop online especially if the website does not look 100 percent official. If the source in unreliable, the bank account connected to the debit card can be drained and overdraft charges can be fined.
