SCHRIEVER AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- TEDxSchriever presents Selflessness
TEDxSchriever is 1 p.m. May 15 in the Building 300 auditorium. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDxSchriever is a local, self-organized event that brings people together to share a TED-like experience. The theme for the event is "Selflessness." Live speakers include Helen Thorpe, Steve Hitchcock, Thea Wasche, Airman 1st Class Samuel Stone, Lt. Col. Todd Benson and U.S. Air Force Academy Band Blue Steel to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The event will also feature TEDTalks videos focusing on the theme. Military Retirees Activities office holds luncheon 
The Military Retiree Activities office holds a luncheon at noon the second Thursday of each month at the Peterson Air Force Base Club, followed by its monthly council meeting at 2:30 p.m. in Building 350, Room 1206. For more information, call 556-7153. 

Society opens doors to military widows
The Society of Military Widows is open to widows of any branch of military service, regardless of the spouses rank. The Pikes Peak Chapter 15 of the Society of Military Widows meets on the last Wednesday of the month at 10:30 a.m. at the Peterson Air Force Base Club. Crime Prevention Tip
Make sure your child knows to never divulge personal information on the internet, including his or her name, age, photos, gender, physical description, telephone number, address, etc. Internet predators look at personal profiles stored on the internet to find their victims. Vanpool opens at Castle Rock
Space is available in Castle Rock to Schriever vanpool. It departs Castle Rock at 6 a.m. and arrives at Schriever at 7:15 a.m. For more information, contact 2nd Lt. Peter Forde at 567-5258.

Buy Elitch Garden tickets
The Information, Tickets and Tours/Outdoor Recreation Office is now selling discounted Elitch Gardens amusement park tickets. Season passes, one-day passes, meal vouchers and parking passes can all be purchased at the ITT/ODR in Building 300, Room 133. Buy early to take advantage of "pre-season" specials. Stop by the office or call 567-6050 for any questions. 

Fitness center main parking lot closed for resurfacing
The Schriever Fitness Center main parking lot is being resurfaced until May 15.  During this time, the main parking lot will be closed.  Please use the upper parking lot until the resurfacing is complete.  For more information, call 567-6628.

Give parents a break
The Child Development Center offers respite care to referred active-duty Air Force families courtesy of the Air Force Aid Society on one Saturday morning or late afternoon each month.  The next session will be held 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. May. 9.  A voucher is required to register. Eligible families may obtain the voucher through the Airman and Family Readiness Center, commander, first sergeant or chaplain. Your child must be registered at the CDC by May 6. Call the A&FRC at 567-3920 for more information.

LinkedIn Lab coming to Airman and Family Center
The Schriever Airman and Family Readiness Center will host a LinkedIn Lab 9-11 a.m. May 7 in Building 101. A top priority resource for any job seeker, LinkedIn is the world's largest online professional network with millions of members.  This class covers information for the absolute beginner to the advanced LinkedIn user.  Learn how to get the most out of a LinkedIn with hands-on interaction setting up an account and populating it.  Call 567-3920 to sign up for the class.

CDC offers parents day out
The Child Development Center offers Parents Day Out for active-duty Air Force families one day a month. The program is $4 an hour per child.   The next session will be held from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. May 9.  Your child must be registered at the CDC by May 6. Call the CDC at 567-3920 for more information and registration requirements.

Save money, use vanpool
Is the wear and tear of commuting taking a bite out of your car and your wallet?  Is the driving causing too much stress?  Take advantage of a vanpool!  Government civil service and active-duty military may receive a mass transit benefit to offset commuting costs.   Some companies may also offer mass transit benefits.  So join our van pool.  The route includes the South Denver, Castle Pines/Rock, Monument, Black Forest/Woodmen  area.  Final destination is Schriever AFB with arrival times between 7 and 7:15 a.m., Monday-Friday.  Call (719) 359-0343 for more information. 

Softball coaches to hold meeting
The softball coaches meeting will be held 1 p.m. May 6 in Building T-135 (next to Schriever Fitness Center).  Each team must have a representative (coach or player) attend this meeting. Letters of intent will not be accepted after 2 p.m. May 6. Please call the Fitness Center at 567-6628 for more information. 

Air Force offers summer internship program
Schriever AFB will be participating in the Air Force Pathways Summer Internship Program from May 18 to Sept. 25.  Students at least 16 years of age attending high school or accepted for enrollment and/or attending college may apply.  Students must apply on www.usajobs.gov, keyword search: 1356764 (Clerk) or 1356909 (Laborer).  Please contact Maggie Wander at 567-4014 or Fred Tongol at 567-5796 if you have any questions.

The Murph to be held May 8
The Schriever Fitness Center will be hosting "The Murph" competition May 8. The Murph consists of a 1-mile run followed by 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups and 300 body-squats followed by another 1-mile run. All participants who complete the Murph will receive a T-shirt. The pull-ups, push-ups and body-squats may be completed in any order (i.e. doing sets of 5 pull-ups, 10 push-ups, and 15 squats) but the 1-mile runs must "book-end" the event. You must pre-register for this event by noon on May 6. For registration and more information, please call the Fitness Center at 567-6628.

Women's locker room closed May 6, 20
The women's locker room at the Schriever Fitness Center will be closed 9 a.m.-2 p.m. May 6 and 20 for electrical work.  The women's locker room will be unavailable for use during this time. Please call the fitness center at 567-6628 for more information.
