Base Bulletin - week of April 16

SCHRIEVER AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- SARC hosts inflatable 5K run 
The Sexual Assault and Response Coordinator office is hosting a Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month Inflatable 5K Run 2:45 p.m. April 15 at the Schriever Fitness Center. The first 300 people in place (track infield) will receive a free T-shirt. Military physical training uniform is not mandatory. Individuals can wear any appropriate work out gear they choose. Be creative. All participants must complete a liability waiver.

Tech Expo comes to Schriever 
The 50th Space Communications Squadron is hosting a Tech Expo 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 16 at the Schriever Fitness Center. 

Suicide prevention training for facilitators 
There will be suicide prevention training for facilitators at noon to 2 p.m. April 15 in Building 210 wing conference room.  If you have been selected as a facilitator, and cannot make this session, call Jena Bienia.

Wingman Day is April 21-22 
Wingman Day is April 21 and 22.  Suicide prevention will be the focus for this year's wingman day, and we will be rolling out the new Air Force suicide prevention training during this time.  Each group has people selected as their wingman day POCs and they will be sharing information with you.  Col. Bill Liquori, 50th Space Wing commander, will be holding a commander's call 2 p.m. April 22 at the Schriever Fitness Center. Comprehensive Airman Fitness resource tables will be available April 21 in the atrium of Building 210 and outside of the Satellite Dish dining facility. CDC looks for playground cleanup volunteers 
The Schriever Child Development Center is looking for volunteers to help with playground clean up and basic lawn work 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 25. Lunch will be provided to volunteers. If you can help with the clean up or could drop off some much needed supplies like rakes, trash bags, brooms or gloves, please contact 1st Lt. Caitlin Morehart at 567-2035.

Women's locker room closed April 21-22 
The women's locker room at the Schriever Fitness Center will be closed 9 a.m.-2 p.m. April 21 and 22 for electrical work.  The women's locker room will be unavailable for use during this time. Please call the fitness center at 567-6628 for more information.

Finance offers new hours 
Effective April 13, the finance customer service office is open 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. If these hours do not meet your needs, please call to schedule an appointment at 567-2010. As a reminder, for Government Travel Card issues, please contact your unit APC. For Defense Travel System issues please contact your unit ODTA. Finance in-processing briefings remains 8 a.m. Mondays. Separation and retirement briefings will continue to be the first and third Wednesday of each month at 10 a.m. For questions, please contact 2nd Lt. Carly Serratore at 567-6416.

Get to Know TED 
What is TEDxSchriever? Who will be speaking in May? The TEDxSchriever Team will host a Get to Know TED lunch 11 a.m. to noon April 17 in the Building 300 auditorium. The Get to Know TED will feature various TEDTalks, information about the TEDxSchriever event, including the selected speakers. The Get to Know TED is open to anyone or email

Dental clinic offers walk-in hours 
Due to minimal manning at the Schriever Dental Clinic, we have implemented walk-in hours for in processing, out processing, record copies, scheduling, VMPF, etc.  Our walk-in hours are as follows: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday: 3 to 4:30 p.m.; Wednesday and Friday: 2 to 4:30 p.m.

Red Cross offers CPR, AED training course 
There will be a CPR and AED training course 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 18 in Building T-135 located next to the Schriever Fitness Center. Deadline to register is April 15. Please call 719-322-8273 for more information.

Military Retirees Activities Office hosts monthly luncheon 
The Military Retiree Activities office holds a luncheon at noon the second Thursday of each month at the Peterson Air Force Base club, followed by its monthly council meeting at 2:30 p.m. in Building 350, Room 1206.

Society opens doors to military widows 
The Society of Military Widows is open to widows of any branch of military service, regardless of the spouses rank. The Pikes Peak Chapter 15 of the Society of Military Widows meets on the last Wednesday of the month at 10:30 a.m. at the Peterson Air Force Base club. Save money, ride a vanpool 
Save gas money. Government provides $130 per rider per month to pay for commuter van.  Department of Defense civilians and uniformed military personnel are eligible.  Space is available that originates from Falcon Walmart (Woodmen and Meridian Market View Road). The van departs 6:25 a.m. weekdays and arrives at Schriever 6:55 a.m. At the end of the duty day, the van departs Schriever at 4:10 p.m. and arrives at Falcon Walmart 4:40 p.m.  Drop off and pickup points on Schriever may vary. Free NFL football, cheerleading camp 
Former U.S. Air Force Academy and NFL player Chad Hall is hosting a free football and cheerleading camp for children ages 5 - 14. Hall and other former/current NFL football players and cheerleaders will be present to lead the camp. It will take place May 2 at the Academy. For more information please visit

Unapproved AED Removal 
The ease of use of AEDs by the trained lay public has led to the increasing development of Public Access Defibrillator programs. As the 50th Space Wing PAD program coordinator, it is my responsibility to guarantee the proper deployment, maintenance and training for all AEDs on base. To do this, I must ask for your immediate assistance. Please contact me immediately if you have, or know of any AEDs here on Schriever AFB. Unapproved devices must be removed from public display and use immediately to avoid potential harm and/or liability. Please contact Maj. Terry Bates at 556-9359 or the 21st Medical Squadron.

Schriever offers Pathways Summer Internship Program

Academy holds Falcon 50 Race Series 
The Falcon 50 Race Series held annually at the U.S. Air Force Academy is taking place May 2. Chapel hosts World Religions Lunch and Learn 
The Schriever Chapel will host a World Religions Lunch and Learn each Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. in Satellite Dish dining facility, beginning April 29 and ending June 3. All are welcome to enjoy a stimulating and informational session, ending with question and answer period. Enjoy learning more about various cultures and religions. Each session is taught by a representative of that particular faith. Grab your lunch and prepare to be enlightened.

Sponsor a cadet 
The U.S. Air Force Academy Class of 2019 is due to arrive June 25.  We are looking for volunteer sponsor families to build a professional mentoring relationship and provide a home-away-from-home for the cadets.  Eligible sponsors are O-3 and above; E-6 and above; GS-05 and above. Cadets are scheduled to meet their sponsors at the Doolie Day Out event July 18 at the Academy. The deadline to sign up for the Doolie Day Out event is July 2.  You may also sign up for academic year sponsorship if you are unable to participate in this one-day event.

Reduce your stress by improving your sleep 
Are you waking up tired?  Feeling unrefreshed or unrested?  Having difficulties falling or staying asleep at night? Want a better night of sleep?  Nationally, one-third of the population experiences occasional sleep problems, yet only 10 percent of sleep problems are caused from medical conditions.  The remainders of sleep problems are caused by things we can control.  Come to the 21st Medical Squadron Clinic's sleep enhancement class to find out how.  Join us on the first and third Thursday of each month at 12 p.m. in the Chapel Resource Room in Building 300, Room 146.  Class is open to all Schriever personnel.

Basketball court closed April 15-16

21 MDS offers Stress Master Class 
We realize that today you are doing more with less. It is important that we build resilience to deal with our changing environment.  The 21st Medical Squadron Mental Health Clinic is now offering a stress mastery class to help you channel stress into productivity and success. The class is open to all Schriever AFB personnel. Drop in on the second and fourth Thursday of each month at the Chapel Resource Room in Building 300, Room 146. Class is from noon to 12:50 p.m. Empower yourself to be a resilient person.  No RSVP required. Bring your lunch.

Housing offers bible study 
The Schriever Housing Christian Fellowship will consist of worship, bible study and prayer 6:30 to 8 p.m. every Wednesday at Tierra Vista Community Center. Those interested may email or call 406-871-0550. All you need is a bible and willingness to study God's word.  The format will be a discussion led study. Childcare will not be provided but do not let the lack of childcare hinder attendance. Schriever Choir Orbital Harmony Auditions 
The SAFB Choir performance group Orbital Harmony will be conducting auditions to fill vacant spots for the upcoming 2015 performance season. All positions are currently open (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass). Any experience level is welcome. Auditions will be conducted by appointment at the SAFB Fitness Center Annex west of the SAFB Fitness Center. Sky Sox ticket vouchers available now 
Information, Tickets and Tours has free ticket vouchers for the May 1 Military Appreciation Game.  Vouchers can be picked up from ODR/ITT in Bldg. 300, Wizards Brew in Bldg. 210, or at the Fitness Center.  Vouchers must be redeemed prior to the game at the Sky Sox box office.   Limit of 10 per person.  For more information call 567-6050.

Toastmasters develop speaking skills

13S Officer Assignment Team visits Schriever 
All 13S Officers: The Randolph Air Force Base 13S OAT will be visiting Schriever AFB April 30 to May 1. They will be conducting a Spread-the-Word Briefing 8:30-10 a.m. April 30 in Building 300 auditorium. One-on-one counseling sessions will be provided for those who are interested. Please schedule your counseling session with 1st Lt. Steven Zamora (567-3612). Counseling sessions are 20 minutes long and are available 10:20 a.m.-4:10 p.m. April 30 and 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. May 1 in Building 300 conference room.
