Base Bulletin - week of April 2

SCHRIEVER AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Inflatable 5K Run
The SARC is hosting a Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month Inflatable 5K Run 2:45 p.m. April 15 at the Fitness Center running path. The first 300 people in place (track infield) will receive a free T-shirt! Military PT uniform is not mandatory. Individuals can wear any appropriate work out gear they choose. Be creative! All participants must complete a liability waiver.

Military Retirees Activities Office hosts monthly luncheon
The Military Retiree Activities office holds a luncheon at noon the second Thursday of each month at the Peterson Air Force Base club, followed by its monthly council meeting at 2:30 p.m. in Building 350, Room 1206.

Society opens doors to military widows
The Society of Military Widows is open to widows of any branch of military service, regardless of the spouses rank. The Pikes Peak Chapter 15 of the Society of Military Widows meets on the last Wednesday of the month at 10:30 a.m. at the Peterson Air Force Base club. Save money, ride a vanpool
Save gas money. Government provides $130 per rider per month to pay for commuter van.  Department of Defense civilians and uniformed military personnel are eligible.  Space is available that originates from Falcon Walmart (Woodmen and Meridian Market View Road). The van departs 6:25 a.m. weekdays and arrives at Schriever 6:55 a.m. At the end of the duty day, the van departs Schriever at 4:10 p.m. and arrives at Falcon Walmart 4:40 p.m.  Drop off and pickup points on Schriever may vary. A&FRC provides pre-separation counseling briefing
The Airman and Family Readiness Center will host a pre-separation counseling briefing 2 - 4.m.  April 7.  This is the first step to separating or retiring from the military and the briefing is mandatory. Discussion will include registering for e-benefits, beginning an individual transition plan and the benefits and services available when you leave the military. Documentation of this briefing is accomplished through the completion of Department of Defense Form 2648. If you are a year from separation or two years from retirement, start the process. Call the A&FRC at 567-3920 to sign up.

The A&FRC will host Heartlink 8 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. April 2. Newly married spouses with learn the mission of the Air Force and the base and become familiar with available resources and educate them on their benefits.  This class is for spouses who have been a military spouse for less than 5 years and especially new to Schriever AFB.  Briefings include, Tricare, Protocol, Finance, Legal and the Medical Group; participants will be treated to lunch as well as a tour of some facilities inside of the restricted area.  Please contact Kendra or Cheryl at 567-3920 to sign up

The Civvies of Networking coming to the Airman and Family Center
The Airman & Family Readiness Center is hosting, "The Civvies of Networking" 9 - 11 a.m. April 3. Between 60 and 90 percent of jobs of are found through networking with friends, relatives, personal contacts, and professional organizations. Networking involves developing your contacts and connecting with people. If done well, it may lessen your job search time and turn personal contacts into interviews and, hopefully, job offers.  Speakers form local networking groups will be presenting information on the importance of networking and how to market yourself at networking events and provide tips

Basketball Court Closed Apr. 3
The basketball court at the Fitness Center will be closed from 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. April 3 in support of an official function. Please call the Fitness Center at 567-6628 for more information

Free National Parks Passes
The National Parks Service will be at the fitness center from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. April 10 issuing free parks passes. The passes allow the cardholder and their families' free access to over 240 national parks across the country as well as discounted services like camping, equipment rental, etc.  Active Duty, Reservists and anyone with a 10 percent or greater disability is eligible. 2015 AF Pathways Summer Internship Program

Schriever Choir Orbital Harmony Auditions
The SAFB Choir performance group Orbital Harmony will be conducting auditions to fill vacant spots for the upcoming 2015 performance season. All positions are currently open (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass). Any experience level is welcome. Auditions will be conducted by appointment at the SAFB Multi Purpose Facility west of the SAFB Gym. Participation in the SAFB Choir can be used in qualification for the USAF Volunteer Ribbon. For more details or to schedule an  audition, please contact the OH POC, Allen Vickrey, 721-9280.

Falcon 50 Race Series
The Falcon 50 Race Series held annually at the United States Air Force Academy is taking place on May 2 this year. Registration for the 50-mile race, the marathon, and the ruck can be completed on "" by searching "Falcon 50." Registration closes April 5 at 11:59 p.m.

World Religions Lunch & Learn
The Schriever Chapel will host a World Religions Lunch & Learn each Wednesday at 11:30 in The Dish (the reserved area), beginning  April 29 and ending June 3. All are welcome to enjoy a stimulating and informational session, ending with Q & A period. Enjoy learning more about various cultures and religions. Each session is taught by a representative of that particular faith. Grab your lunch and prepare to be enlightened!

The 50th Space Communications Squadron is hosting a Tech Expo 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 16. at the fitness center. 

Crime Prevention Tip Preventing Fraud and Identity Theft

Parents Day Out
The Child Development Center offers parents the opportunity to leave their children in a safe environment for a day out.  The rate is $4.00 an hour and coincides with Give Parents a Break program. Cadet Sponsor Program
The Air Force Academy's Class of 2019 is due to arrive on June 25th.  We are looking for volunteer sponsor families to build a professional mentoring relationship and provide a home-away-from-home for the cadets.  Eligible sponsors are O-3 and above; E-6 and above; GS-05 and above. Cadets are scheduled to meet their sponsors at the Doolie Day Out event at the Academy on Saturday, July 18th.   The deadline to sign up for the Doolie Day Out event is Thursday, July 2nd.  You may also sign up for academic year sponsorship if you are unable to participate in this one-day event.

ITT has FREE Steamboat Ski Tickets
Information, Tickets, and Tours has FREE lift tickets for Steamboat Ski Resort!  The tickets are good for one FREE day of skiing April 10-12.  Tickets are available now at ODR/ITT in bldg 300, rm 131, and at the Fitness Center on a first come, first served basis.  Limit 4 per person.   Must possess a valid military ID.  For more information call ODR/ITT at 567-6050.
