Base Bulletin - week of March 12

Schriever Air Force Base will be hosting TEDxSchriever in May but you can get in on the fun during a Get To Know TED lunch 11 a.m. to noon March 13 at the Building 300 auditorium. Wing holds Chief Cole's retirement ceremony 
The 50th Space Wing is hosting the retirement ceremony of Chief Master Sgt. Lavon Coles, the wing's command chief. The event is 3 p.m. May 1 at the Peterson Air Force Base club. For more information or to RSVP, visit or contact Master Sgt. Teri Freeman.

Pikes Peak Top 3 taking scholarship application 
The Pikes Peak Top 3 is currently taking applications for the first quarter Enlisted Education Grant Incentive Program. Please encourage any worthy airman basics to technical sergeants who are enrolled in college courses this quarter to apply. Recipients will receive a $100 check. Deadline is March 31. St. Paddy's Day 2.5 Mile Fun Run/Walk 
The Schriever Fitness Center will be hosting a St. Paddy's Day 2.5-mile fun run and walk 3 p.m. March 13. The route will be the same as the 2.5-mile Warfit Run route. The race will start by the batting cages west of the fitness center. The first 100 finishers will receive a free t-shirt. No registration is required. Exchange hosts Navajo Code Talkers 
The Exchange is hosting a meet and greet with Navajo Code Talkers 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. March 12-13 near the entrance of the Exchange.

Military Retirees Activities Office holds luncheon 
The Military Retiree Activities Office holds a luncheon at noon the second Thursday of each month at the Peterson Air Force Base club, followed by its monthly council meeting at 2:30 p.m. in Building 350, Room 1206.

Society invites military widows 
The Society of Military Widows is open to widows of any branch of military service, regardless of the spouses rank. The Pikes Peak Chapter 15 of the Society of Military Widows meets on the last Wednesday of the month at 10:30 a.m. at the Peterson Air Force Base club. Volunteers needed at PPIHC
Volunteers are needed for the 93rd running of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb and fan fest.  Volunteer meeting is June 20; tech inspection is June 22; fan fest is June 26; race day and camping is June 27-28. Camping and volunteer spots are based on first come first serve. We can accommodate groups as needed to stay together. Check out for more information. New York to hold special general election
New York will hold a special election May 5 for the 11th Congressional District. If you are a New York resident from the 11th District and need to vote absentee, you may register and request an absentee ballot using the FPCA found at  Complete, sign and send the FPCA to your local election official who will send you a ballot once your request is received by April 28.  If you do not receive your State ballot 30 days before the election, you may use the Federal Write-In Absentee Ballot.  The form and candidate names are available at under "Get My Ballot."

Fountain vanpool opens to commuters
Would you like to save money on your commute to Schriever?  We have four openings in our vanpool currently.  It is a government subsidized program for all Department of Defense civil service employees and active-duty military.  There is no out of pocket expense for vanpool participants.  The route starts at the Safeway shopping center in Fountain.  We depart 6:05 p.m. from Safeway and arrive 6:30 a.m. at Schriever. We depart the installation at 4 p.m. and arrive back at Safeway at approximately 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.  If you are interested and/or have any questions, please contact Steve Cooper at 567-5668. 

Save money, ride a vanpool
Save gas money. The government provides $130 per rider per month to pay for commuter van.  Department of Defense civilians and military personnel are eligible.  Space is available that originates from Falcon Walmart (Woodmen and Meridian Market View Road). The van departs 6:25 a.m. weekdays and arrives at Schriever AFB 6:55 a.m. At the end of the duty day, the van departs Schriever AFB at 4:10 p.m. and arrives at Falcon Walmart 4:40 p.m.  Drop off and pickup points on Schriever may vary. LinkedIn Lab coming to A&FRC
The Schriever Airman and Family Readiness Center will host a LinkedIn Lab 9-11 a.m. March 12. A top priority resource for any job seeker, LinkedIn is the world's largest online professional network with millions of members.  This class covers information for the absolute beginner to the advanced LinkedIn user.  Learn how to get the most out of a LinkedIn with hands -on interaction setting up an account and populating it.  Call 567-3920 to sign up for the class. The class will be held at the A&FRC Building 101.

A&FRC conducts Right Start briefing
The Airman and Family Readiness Center will be conducting a Right Start brief 8 a.m.-3 p.m. March 19 in the Building 300 auditorium. Newcomers to Schriever must attend this brief, which is specifically geared towards newly arrived military personnel, Department of Defense civilians and their families. Spouses are invited; but the sponsoring member must obtain a visitors pass at Pass and Registration and provide escort duties. For information or to sign up, contact the A&FRC at 567-3920 or

Transition GPS
The next Transition GPS Workshop will be 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. March 16-19 at the Airman and Family Readiness Center in Building 101.  The last day concentrates on Veterans Affairs benefits and entitlements.  Pre-separation brief must be completed prior to attending the Transition Assistance Program workshop.  TAP is offered every month. You must register for the workshop by calling 567-3920.  If you are unable to attend the March TAP class, the next class will be held in April; call now to reserve your seat.

A&FRC offers the Technical Training Track
The Airman and Family Readiness Center will host a Technical Training Track at Peterson A&FRC. With all the changes to TAP, providing training or classes on a variety of options for new career choices is recommended. One of the "tracks" is the Technical Training Track, geared towards those who will be pursuing a technical career. This class will provide information on what is expected in terms of education, experience, certifications and much more. The class will be 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. March 19 - 20. Call the A&FRC at 567-3920 to sign up.

Eight-port KVM switch up for grabs
An eight-port KVM switch, a common computer device, is available.  The device is an Omniview Pro 2 model F1DA1087 with seven VGA style cables. Some VGA to DVI adaptors are also available.

VA coming to A&FRC
The Schriever Airman and Family Readiness Center will host a Veterans Affairs class 8 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. March 20. Transitioning military will learn the many benefits they are entitled to such as VA home loans, Montgomery GI Bill and Post 9-11 MGIB, disability benefits and so much more. This class is mandatory for individuals who are separating and retirees as part of the Transition GPS program. Call 567-3920 to sign up for the class. The class will be held at the A&FRC Building 101.

Housing offers bible study
The Schriever Housing Christian Fellowship will consist of worship, bible study and prayer 6:30-8 p.m. every Wednesday at Tierra Vista Community Center. Those interested may email or call 406-871-0550.  All you need is a bible and willingness to study God's word.  The format will be a discussion led study. Childcare will not be provided but do not let the lack of childcare hinder attendance. Just give us a call and we will explore options as necessary.  If you play the guitar or to want to lead worship, contact us ASAP.
