General court-martial convicts Airman

SCHRIEVER AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- On Feb. 20, Airman 1st Class Justin Mendoza, 3rd Space Operations Squadron, was convicted by a general court-martial of one specification of sexual assault. The panel, consisting of six officers, found Mendoza had engaged in intercourse with the victim, a fellow Airman, while she was incapable of consenting due to alcohol impairment.
As a result of his conviction, Mendoza was sentenced to a reprimand, reduction to the grade of E-1, forfeiture of $500 pay per month for six months and hard labor without confinement for three months. Additionally, Mendoza faces mandatory discharge from the Air Force.
