SCHRIEVER AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- Time for taxes at Schriever Tax Center 
The Schriever Air Force Base Tax Center will be open for business Feb. 11. Free services will be available for all active duty, Reserve, retired and dependent Schriever personnel.  More information will be forthcoming with designated volunteer contact information.  For information please contact Capt. REMINDER: Wing holds retreat, Warfit Run 
This is a reminder that the 50th Space Wing retreat is 4:30 p.m. Feb. 5 at the wing headquarters. Additionally, the Warfit Run is 3 p.m. Feb. 11. 

GPS Week culminates with heritage celebration dinner 
The GPS Heritage Celebration Dinner is 7 p.m. Feb. 20 at Antlers Hilton in Colorado Springs, Colorado. This event will be celebrating the 36 years of GPS operations and recognizing those individuals who have had a substantial impact within the world of GPS.  For more information or to RSVP, visit  

Military Retirees Activities Office holds luncheon 
The Military Retiree Activities Office luncheon is noon Feb. 12 the Palmer Room of the Peterson Air Force Base club. Tom Tudor, former sentry and relief commander at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, will talk about the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the history of Arlington Cemetery as well as the history of Northern Virginia and Washington D.C.  Lunch will be served at noon.  Luncheon is open to all active-duty military, civilian employees, military retirees and their spouses. Call the Retiree Activities Office at 556-7153 by Feb. 9 to reserve your place.

Manage your stress 
We realize that today you are doing more with less. It is important we build resilience to deal with our changing environment.  The 21st Medical Squadron Mental Health Clinic is offering a stress management class to teach relaxation skills and optimize wellbeing.  The class is open to all Schriever AFB personnel. Drop in on the second and fourth Thursday of each month at the Chapel Resource Room, Building 300, Room 146. Class is from noon to 12:50 p.m. Empower yourself to be a resilient person. No RSVP required. Bring your lunch.

Be a better speaker 
If you had the opportunity to interview for your dream job would you be able to say what needs to be said? Toastmasters helps you develop better speaking and presentation skills, think quickly and clearly on your feet, and can open doors to your personal and professional life.  Meetings are open to everyone--enlisted, officer, civilian, contractor, retiree, spouses and dependents.  Meetings are 3:30 p.m. every other Tuesday beginning Feb. 10 at the Terra Vista community center. Basketball court closed Feb. 6-12 
The Schriever Fitness Center basketball court will be closed from 5 a.m. Feb. 6 until 7:30 p.m. Feb. 12. The basketball court will be completely off-limits during this period. Please call the fitness center at 567-6628 for more information.

Chapel sponsors leadership study 
The chapel will sponsor a leadership study based on lessons from the Book of Nehemiah.  It is a faith-based study with life-changing insights and lessons on leadership.  If you are looking to enhance your leadership skills, this is a great opportunity.  It will begin 11:30 Feb. 10 in the Satellite Dish dining facility and will continue Tuesdays, same time/place, for four to five weeks.   Bring a friend.  Please come a little early so you can grab your grub and join in the fun.

Save money, ride a vanpool 
The government provides $130 per rider per month to pay for commuter van.  Department of Defense civilians and military personnel are eligible.  Space is available that originates from Falcon Walmart (Woodmen and Meridian Market View Road). The van departs 6:25 a.m. weekdays and arrives at Schriever Air Force Base 6:55 a.m. At the end of the duty day, the van departs Schriever AFB at 4:10 p.m. and arrives at Falcon Walmart 4:40 p.m.  Drop off and pickup points on Schriever AFB may vary. Improve your sleep 
Are you waking up tired?  Feeling unrefreshed or unrested?  Having difficulties falling or staying asleep at night? Want a better night of sleep?  Nationally, one-third of the population experiences occasional sleep problems, yet only 10 percent of sleep problems are caused from medical conditions.  The remainders of sleep problems are caused by things we can control.  Come to the 21st Medical Squadron clinic's sleep enhancement class to find out how.  Join us noon on the first and third Thursday of each month at the Chapel Resource Room in Building 300, Room 146.  Class is open to all Schriever personnel. 

Base hold varsity softball tryouts 
Tryouts for the varsity softball team will be held 3 p.m. Feb. 10, 12, 17, 19, 24 and 26 at the Schriever softball field. Eligible players are active duty, Reserves, dependents (18 years or older), contractors and retirees. Make sure you are stretched, warmed up and ready to go by 3 p.m. Bring your gear and plenty of water. For more information, please contact Master Sgt. Joshua Carter at 567-0361.

Joins single parent retreat   
Get away for this great single parents retreat weekend at the Cheyenne Mountain Resort, Colorado Springs, Colorado. The retreat includes one-night stay, meals included (Friday-dinner not provided, Saturday-breakfast/lunch provided).  Childcare will be provided for children 10 and under, and we have eight childcare spots and four adult spots available. This event is sponsored by the Schriever AFB Chapel and hosted by the Colorado Healthy Marriage Project.  Open to military and everyone else on Schriever AFB.  To register, contact the chapel staff at 567-3705 or First come, first serve basis.

Chapel holds Catholic Ash Wednesday service 
Please join us for a Catholic prayer service with the distribution of ashes commemorating the beginning of lent.  The 30-minute service will be held 12:30 p.m. Feb. 18 in Building T-135, next to the fitness center.  For more information, contact the chapel at 567-3705.
