SCHRIEVER AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- The 50th Space Wing is hosting its Winter Wonderland themed holiday party from 6 to 9:30 p.m. and cocktail hour at 5 p.m. Dec. 5 at The Club, Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado.
"The wing holiday party is unique in that it is opportunity to build relationships with fellow Schriever personnel in an in-formal setting while getting to know people outside of their normal units," said Master Sgt. Branden Neeley, one of the party committee members. "The environment is unique as well because the entire focus of the event is to have fun. No better way to relax and have a good time amongst family and friends then with good food, games, dancing and of course free prizes throughout the night."
First Lt. Ryan Southworth, 50th Space Communications Squadron, is the lead of the 15-member planning committee, which has been preparing this event for approximately a year.
"It was a way to give back to our Schriever family as well as our extended Schriever family," he said.
The communication officer hopes to have more than 215 people in attendance, which is more than last year. Southworth also commended the committee for receiving the most donations it ever has.
"This was the best year of donations we've ever seen," Southworth said. "Our team worked hard all year fundraising for this event. This means we are going to have a lot of prize opportunities."
And their hard work shows. Typically the committee uses part of the money raised to make mementos for guests. This year, they decided to do something a little different.
"We're donating $500 to Sarah's Home, a therapeutic shelter for underage victims of sex trafficking," said Southworth. "We wanted to do something to help."
The committee's goal for the event is to get as many people to attend as possible.
"We worked hard and we want people to enjoy themselves," he added.
Additionally, the committee is looking for volunteers to help with the setup and decoration for the event. Volunteers should contact 1st Lt. Kelly Caggiano, 4th Space Operations Squadron.
"We're looking for as many people to help as possible," Caggiano said. "The experience has been phenomenal. I got to work with a lot of awesome people in a variety of ranks."
Anyone interested in purchasing tickets for the event should contact their unit ticket representatives.
"The holiday party enables all different facets of the base to get together and just have fun," Southworth said. "It's a great opportunity for people to let their hair down and have a good time."
