Base Bulletin - week of Aug. 14

SCHRIEVER AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- FSS institutes Compliance Thursdays
- The 50th Force Support Squadron is participating in Compliance Thursdays every Thursday from 2-4:30 p.m. During this time, many offices within the squadron will reduce operations. Please check with the FSS unit you are working with before attempting service during these times. A detailed list of the available service for each office is below.

- The Airman & Family Readiness Center will be closed for routine business. The following services will still be available but limited: Air Force Assistance Fund Emergency Loans, Discovery Center, any unforeseen emergencies and Transition GPS and Pre-separation. Classes will not be affected by Compliance Thursdays and will be held as scheduled. For more information call 567-3920.

-The Advertising and Commercial Sponsorship will be closed for routine business. The following services will still be available but limited: scheduled appointments and any unforeseen emergencies. - The Civilian Personnel Office will be closed for routine business. The following services will still be available but limited: Scheduled appointments and any unforeseen emergencies. - The Military Personnel Section will be closed for routine business. The following services will still be available but limited: ID Cards, scheduled appointments and any unforeseen emergencies. Military Retiree Activities holds meetings
The Military Retiree Activities office holds a luncheon at noon the second Thursday of each month at the Peterson Air Force Base Club, followed by its monthly council meeting at 2:30 p.m. in Building 350, Room 1206. The guest speaker on Aug. 14 will be Jose Rodriquez, who will speak about the Peterson and Schriever AFB Military Housing Office offering housing for the Military Retirees. Schriever holds triathlon
The Schriever Fitness Center will be hosting the 10th annual Schriever Triathlon 9 a.m. Aug. 22. Participants will swim 400 meters in the Tierra Vista pool, mountain bike 12 miles around the base perimeter (no cross-bicycles or skinny tires) and run 3.1 miles. Participants must arrive no later than 8:45 a.m. Registration is limited to 50 (first come-first served). The registration deadline is Aug. 20. All finishers will receive a T-shirt. Prizes will be given to the top 3 male and top 3 female finishers. Please contact Seth Cannello at 567-6658 for registration.

STEM rocks
Peterson Air Force Base is hosting Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Rocks Festival 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 23 at the Peterson Air and Space Museum. The festival features hands-on activities for kindergarten and 8th grade students, such as make slime, crawl through caves, launch rockets, run underwater rovers, experience hurricanes, build gliders, investigate dinosaurs, interact with wild animals and more. Fitness center hosts archery competition
The Schriever Fitness Center will be hosting an archery competition Aug. 19. You must have attended archery orientation prior to the competition in order to be eligible to compete. Please call 567-6658 or email Seth Cannello to register for the competition.

First sergeants lead Schriever food drive
The Schriever First Sergeant Diamond Council is currently holding a Schriever Can Food Drive as part of the sixth annual 'Feds Feed Families" food drive campaign. Schriever has set a goal to reach 6,500 pounds of non-perishable items by Aug. 31. Individuals may bring items and drop them off to the drop-off locations (North and West Portals, Building 210 atrium, Schriever Fitness Center, community center, Child Development Center or first sergeants office). They may also visit http://vad.aidmatrix.org/vadxml.cfm?driveid=31635 for online donation. Additionally, individuals may bring canned food items to the Aug. 13 Warfit Run. Everyone who brings at least two canned food items for the run will be authorized to wear appropriate civilian physical training gear. Some of the highly needed items are canned food, fruits and meat, cereal and oatmeal. For more information, contact your first sergeants.

Reminder: Keep track of IT equipment
This is your monthly reminder about issued information technology equipment. In accordance with Air Force Manual 33-153, if you have been issued IT equipment (computer, monitor, printer, etc.) by your IT equipment custodian, you are responsible for accountability of the item. You are required to notify your ITEC of any equipment relocations. This allows the ITEC to keep track of its location for overall accountability and inventory purposes. If you have any questions regarding this, please contact your ITEC or the Base Equipment Control Office at 567-2326.

Basketball court to close temporarily
The basketball court at the Schriever Fitness Center will close at 3 p.m. Aug. 19 until 7:30 p.m. Aug. 20 and 3 p.m. Aug. 21 until 7:30 p.m. Aug. 22. For more information, please call the fitness center at 567-6628.

Legal assistance website saves time
You may fill out an online worksheet prior to your visit to the legal officefor expedited service. Worksheet topics include wills, advance medical directives and powers of attorney. No legal documents can be printed from this website. Please visit the Schriever legal office to obtain your document. Only Air Force legal offices have access to the data you enter here, and the data you enter is deleted after 90 days. Please bring your ticket number with you. Legal office personnel will not be able to access your worksheet without the ticket number. Visit https://aflegalassistance.law.af.mil.

Join fee singles retreat
Please join us for our upcoming singles retreat Aug. 22-24 at Cheyenne Mountain Resort in Colorado Springs. This is a free weekend getaway at a great facility, with lodging, meals and childcare provided for during the training sessions. The event is sponsored by the Schriever Chapel in partnership with the Colorado Healthy Marriage Project.

50 SW looks for top athletes
The Tri-Space Wing Sports Day will be held Aug. 27 at Peterson Air Force Base. This all-day event features participants from the three front-range bases (Schriever, Peterson and Buckley Air Force Bases). The 50th Space Wing leadership is seeking participants to help lead Schriever to a win. We will be competing in a 5K race, ball hockey, basketball, bowling, dodgeball, flag football, golf, soccer, tennis, tug-of-war and volleyball. More details on the rules can be found on posters throughout base. Volunteers are also needed to help oversee events. If interested in participating or volunteering, please contact Capt. Schriever celebrates Diversity Day
Diversity Day is designed to celebrate and embrace our differences, no matter what race, religion, gender, age, nationality or disability. It is a day to reflect on and learn about different cultures and ideologies. 50 SW holds SNCO induction banquet
The 50th Space Wing Senior NCO Induction Banquet will be held Sept. 19 at the Peterson Air Force Base club. The medallion ceremony begins 5 p.m. Social hour starts 5:30 p.m. The banquet begins at 6 p.m. The cost of the event is $27 for members and non-members for all ranks and must be paid by cash or check only. Payment for meals at the door will not be available. Dress for military is mess dress or semi-formal. Civilian wear is formal or semi-formal attire. Deadline to purchase a meal ticket is Sept. 12.
