Base Bulletin - week of July 3

SCHRIEVER AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- Base holds Schriever Week celebration
Col. Bill Liquori, 50th Space Wing commander, invites all Schriever Air Force Base units and personnel to take part in the Schriever Week celebration and events July 14-18. Themed "Mastering Space for 65 years...," the week is aimed at honoring Schriever's history as well as recognizing the people who support the daily mission. The fun-filled week will kick off July 14 following an opening ceremony. Sponsored events during the week will include a Top 3 softball tournament, obstacle race and will culminate at the base picnic July 18. For further information, contact Senior Master Sgt. Rodeo comes to town
The 74th annual Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo will be in town July 9-12. Tickets are now on sale at the Norris-Penrose Event Center box office or online at www.pikespeakorbust.org. For more information, contact Master Sgt. Fernando Santos or Tech Sgt. Abifarin Scott.

Military Retiree Activities holds meetings
The Military Retiree Activities office holds a luncheon at noon the second Thursday of each month at the Peterson Air Force Base Club, followed by its monthly council meeting at 2:30 p.m. in Building 350, Room 1206. The guest speaker on July 10 will be Stephanie Zenon, who will speak about the U.S. Air Force Academy Military Housing office offering housing for the Military Retirees. Base picnic volunteers needed
The 2014 Summer Slam Base Picnic will be held 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 18 at Schriever Air Force Base. Volunteers are needed for various activities before, during and after the event. ITT offers Elitch Gardens tickets
The Information, Tickets and Travel and Outdoor Recreation Office is now selling discounted Elitch Gardens Amusement Park tickets. One-day passes, meal vouchers and parking passes can all be purchased at the ITT/ODR office. Additionally, Elitch Gardens military appreciation tickets are now on sale. Tickets are $25 each and this offer is not available anywhere else. The military appreciation weekend is July 26-27. Stop by the office or call 567-6050 with any questions.

Buy Colorado Rapids tickets at ITT
Buy your tickets for the local soccer club. The Colorado Rapids soccer season has begun and discounted tickets for the 2014 season can be purchased at Outdoor Recreation and Information, Tickets and Travel. Bundle for babies
The next Bundles for Babies class will be held 2-4:30 p.m. July 9 at the Airman and Family Readiness Center (Building 101). Active-duty Air Force and Department of Defense civilian personnel and spouses who are awaiting the birth of a child are eligible for a free bundle of baby items worth over $60. Hosted by the Air Force Aid Society, this class includes such topics as the financial aspects of raising a child, how to maintain couple hood when children enter the picture, and ways of dealing with the stresses of having a new baby. Give parents a break
The Child Development Center offers respite care to referred active-duty Air Force families courtesy of the Air Force Aid Society on one Saturday morning or late afternoon each month. The next session will be held from 9-2 p.m. July 12. A voucher is required to register, which eligible families may obtain through the Airman and Family Readiness Center, commander, first sergeant or chaplain. Borrow household items from Schriever's Loan Locker
The Schriever Airman and Family Readiness Center maintains a loan locker full of household items for those who are PCSing and find themselves in need of dishes, pots and pans, futons, car seats, strollers and many other essentials. These may be borrowed while waiting for the household goods to arrive or after the household goods have been packed out to the new location. Call the A&FRC at 567-3920 to arrange a time to meet at Building 210 where everything is stored.

Moving made simple
The Airman and Family Readiness Center will host a Moving Made Simple briefing for military members, Department of Defense civilians and their families 8-11:30 a.m. July 10. This briefing is designed to help reduce the stress and confusion often associated with moving and provides resources tailored for the individual or family. Representatives from finance, JPPSO and TRICARE will be available to answer any question about processes and entitlements. There will be a Going Overseas portion to address the unique needs of those moving overseas. Call 567-3920 to sign up.

A&FRC provides pre-separation counseling briefing
The Airman and Family Readiness Center will host a pre-separation counseling briefing 2-4 p.m. July 8. This is the first step to separating or retiring from the military and the briefing is mandatory. Discussion will include registering for e-benefits, beginning an individual transition plan and the benefits and services available when you leave the military. Documentation of this briefing is accomplished through the completion of Department of Defense Form 2648. If you are a year from separation or two years from retirement, start the process. Call the A&FRC at 567-3920 to sign up.

Schriever Fitness Center opens during Independence Day
The Fitness Center will be open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 4-7 in observance of Independence Day and the 50th Space Wing family day. For more information, please call the fitness center at 567-6628.

Legal assistance website saves time
You may fill out an online worksheet prior to your visit to the legal officefor expedited service. Worksheet topics include wills, advance medical directives and powers of attorney. No legal documents can be printed from this website. Please visit the Schriever legal office to obtain your document. Only Air Force legal offices have access to the data you enter here, and the data you enter is deleted after 90 days. Please bring your ticket number with you. Schriever holds Rough and Tough Scramble
In conjunction with Schriever Week, the base will be sponsoring a mud run for all Schriever military, civilian and families July 17. The event is free. The course runs approximately 2 miles long with 15 obstacles including mud pits/crawls/climbs and much more. You can run as a team of four and represent your unit or run as an individual. There will be awards for the first three teams and individual awards for male and female. We will also have a category for best team costume, so be creative. To register, contact Tech. Sgt. Shuttle bus service at RA unavailable July 7
The daily Schriever shuttle bus service provided at the restricted area will be unavailable July 7 due to Air Force Space Command family day. Should you require transportation services, please contact 21st Vehicle Operations at DSN 834-4863.

Schriever Week features softball tournament
Schriever Week will be held July 14-18. During the week, Schriever Air Force Base will be hosting a round robin softball tournament. Entry fee is $100 per team and all money raised will go to either the Enlisted Air Force Village or the Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force Scholarship Program. Team size is capped at 15 members and can be both males and females. Please contact Tech. Sgt. Christopher Jacobs at 567-6182 with further questions.
