Schriever Air Force Base, Colo. -- Twenty-seven individuals participated in the Schriever Combine to kick off May Fitness Month May 2 at the base fitness center.

The combine consisted of a 40-yard dash, bench press, vertical jump, broad jump, three cone drills and a shuttle run.

Seth Cannello, Schriever sports and fitness manager, along with the assistance of Tech. Sgt. Michael Benson, 3rd Space Experimentation Squadron, and Staff Sgt. Jonathon Farill, 3 SES Experimentation Squadron, coordinated as well as facilitated the events for the sports combine competition.

"This was the first time we've done anything like this, and the turnout was great," said Cannello.

Cannello along with the assistance of Bing Hack, Charles Thornton, Edward Molloy and Mark Schuette managed registration for the event and also calculated the results to identify the winners.

He said the workouts are tough but also manageable. He announced the overall winners for the event May 5. The first place winner for males is David Morrow, 527th Space Aggressor Squadron.

Morrow said he was surprised to find out he won.

"Fitness is very important to me, although I didn't train specifically for the combine, I do work out regularly," said Morrow.

He thought the combine was well put together and might participate in other events offered by the fitness center for fitness month.

He offered advice to other individuals who are considering registering in the future.
"Even if you're nervous you should still try because you might surprise yourself," said Morrow. "After all, competition brings out the best in people."
