4 SOPS members give back through Red Cross

Airman 1st Class Shawn Maestas, 4th Space Operations Squadron, and Eric Straus, 4 SOPS Plans and Programs chief and pause for a photo Jan. 18, 2014 during the Red Cross Disaster Training Academy at the USOC Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Straus and Maestas are new volunteers for the Red Cross Pikes Peak Chapter. Both were affected by recent wildfires in the Colorado Springs area and when they saw the difference the Red Cross was making they decided to volunteer to be a part of it.

The academy course material covered essential information to provide effective disaster response. Now that the two have completed the course, they will be assigned to a specific group and activity that will allow them to further themselves as a Red Cross volunteer.

Anyone interested in volunteering should go to redcross.org/volunteer to learn more and to begin the volunteer application process.
