Schriever to hold August Warfit run 
The run will be held 7:30 a.m. Thursday at the outdoor running track. Please be in place no later than 7:20 a.m. 

TEDxSchriever: Strengthening Communities 
A community is more than just a group of people who live in the same area. It’s the history and culture of the area, the economy and interests of the society, and the sense of ownership, pride and passion of the people. Join us at TEDxSchriever 9:30 a.m. - 2 p.m.  Friday in the Building 300 auditorium as we explore what our communities are, who lives there and what we are doing to strengthen them. Schriever members invited to PACE class
The Profession of Arms Center of Excellence presents “Professionalism: Enhancing Human Capital” 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Peterson Air Force Base auditorium. This course focuses on self-reflection as a means to better understand how we can become better friends, parents, spouses, co-workers and leaders…in short, better people. Public meeting: US 24 East transportation improvements
The public is invited to meet the project team, learn about the US 24 East transportation improvement study and provide input 5 – 7 p.m. Tuesday, at the Meridian Ranch Recreation Center, 10301 Angeles Road Peyton, Colorado, 80831. Wing holds food drive
The 50th Space Wing is holding a food drive that will contribute to the Care and Share Food Bank. Military Retirees Activities Office holds monthly luncheon  
The Military Retiree Activities office holds a luncheon at noon the second Thursday of each month at the Peterson Air Force Base Club, followed by its monthly council meeting at 2:30 p.m. in Building 350, Room 1206. The guest speaker for Thursday will be Maddy Rodriquez, from the U.S. Air Force Academy Orthopedic Osteoarthritis Clinic. Call 719-556-7153 for more information.

Affected by hail damage? 
If you were affected by the recent hailstorm in the Colorado Springs area and need assistance filing a claim, the Air Force Claims Service Center is your primary point of contact. The AFCSC processes and adjudicates these types of claims. Depending on your status and location at the time of the hailstorm, individuals may qualify to file a claim for damage.

Updated legal assistance hours
Until further notice, walk-in legal assistance hours will be offered 1 - 3 p.m. every Tuesday. Notary services and powers of attorney are still available on a walk-in basis 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. on duty days.  Wills are by appointment 1 - 3 p.m. on Wednesdays. Contact the legal office at 567-5050 with any questions or to schedule a Will appointment.

On-base

OSI, PA to hold social media briefs
The local Air Force Office of Special Investigation and Public Affairs staff have partnered to talk with Schriever youth about smart social media use.  The next briefings will be held 5 p.m. Aug. 18 and 10 a.m. Aug. 19.  The 10 a.m. brief will target 5-12 year olds and will be held at the School Age Care Program while the 5 p.m. brief is for 13-18 year olds and will be held in the Tierra Vista Communities meeting room.  For more information, call 567-5040.

MPS hosts Career Intermission Program info session
Schriever's Military Personnel Section will host one more informational session regarding the Career Intermission Program, which allows personnel to transition temporarily out of active-duty for up to three years. The last session will be held 10 a.m. Aug. 19. in Building 210, Room 310. The session will discuss program details and the application process. For more information, contact 1st Lt. Zachary Hornberger at 567-3098.

Schriever to hold Holocaust Day of Remembrance
The Schriever community is invited to witness and experience a tribute to an important part of world history, as we honor the Holocaust Day of Remembrance. All are welcome to attend, however, the experience may be inappropriate for younger audiences. Holocaust Day of Remembrance will be held 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Aug. 23 in the indoor running track. To volunteer for this event or for more information, contact Chaplain (Capt.) Jennifer Ray at 567-3705.

AFPC hosts retirement webcasts
Air Force Personnel Center will host two webcasts to cover information and questions regarding retirement. The webcasts will be held 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. Aug. 23. The intended audience is lieutenant colonels and below, along with all enlisted personnel with approved voluntary retirement dates. Top 3 hosts ‘Schriever Debate’
The Top 3 will host the first-ever "Schriever Debate" 1 – 2:30 p.m. Aug. 25 in the Building 300 auditorium. This event will follow the rules of a professional debate forum. This iteration will pit the CGO Council against the 5/6 Council's debate team. Come out and support this great event. Some potential topics for debate may include: the new blended retirement system, women in combat, the new transgender policy, the effectiveness of the repeal of “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell,” maternity leave extension to 12 weeks, the need for warrant officers in the air force and Basic Allowance for Subsistence for dorm members.

IG honors Maj. Rickie Banister’s promotion 
The 50th Space Wing Inspector General office is hosting a ceremony in honor of Maj. Rickie Banister’s promotion to lieutenant colonel at 3 p.m. Sept. 1 in the Building 210 Atrium. Register for Green Dot training
Registration is now open for Green Dot overview sessions (to meet the 2016 Sexual Assault Prevention and Response requirement). All personnel can register for an overview session on the FSS SharePoint. If you initially get a "denied access" error, simply press the request access link in the bottom of the error box and you will receive an email when access is granted. Classes are offered 2 p.m. every Monday and Wednesday, and 9 a.m. every Friday in the Building 300 auditorium. Class sizes are limited to 50.

Society opens door to military widows
The Society of Military Widows is open to widows of any branch of military service, regardless of the spouse’s rank. The Pikes Peak Chapter 15 of the Society of Military Widows meets 10:30 a.m. the last Wednesday of the month at the Peterson Air Force Base club. Call 597-0492 or 591-9523 for more information.
