Schriever Week celebrates base’s 31st anniversary

Team Schriever will celebrate the 31st anniversary of the installation’s legacy during the third annual Schriever Week Sept. 26-30.

"Schriever Week is a fantastic way for us to celebrate all of the hard work our Airmen, civilians and contractors do on Schriever every day,” said Col. DeAnna Burt, 50th Space Wing and installation commander.

Named after “The Father of Air Force Space and Missiles,” retired Gen. Bernard Adolph Schriever, who pioneered the development of the nation's ballistic missile programs, the installation is the only Air Force Base whose namesake was alive during the renaming ceremony.

“This is a time to celebrate and acknowledge the accomplishments of Schriever as a base and the wing,” said Senior Master Sgt. Jason Chrisman, 50th Force Support Squadron superintendent and lead coordinator for Schriever Week.

The following is a schedule of events during Schriever Week:

-Sept. 26: An opening ceremony will kick-off Schriever Week at 1:20 p.m. Airmen in the formations should be in place 12:30 p.m.

-Sept. 27: Schriever Air Force Base personnel and their family members are invited on a staff and family tour 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Space is limited; first come, first served. Children are welcome, however, the tour will include lots of stairs, so strollers cannot be accommodated. The deadline to sign-up is Sept. 23. If interested, call the Public Affairs office at 567-5040.

The Airman's Council is hosting a knocker ball tournament at the track from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. To register, contact Senior Airman Cody Helgerson at 567-5536.

The 5/6 club will host a Volleyball tournament starting with a Chiefs vs. Eagles game at 1 p.m. To register, contact Staff Sgt. Morris Thomas at 567-2847.

-Sept. 28: Wingman University arrives again. Get comfortable; wear your favorite college or sci-fi shirt and get ready to learn. The day begins at 8 a.m. in the fitness center with a commander’s call from Col. DeAnna Burt. Sign up for three classes; 9 a.m., 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. and unit activities begin at 2 p.m. Register for classes at the Share Point link.

-Sept. 30: The CGOC will host a Warrior Run at 7:30 a.m. Get a team together and register with Capt. Kyle Rimando at 567-5486.

From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., come enjoy some tasty barbecue courtesy of the chiefs. While you’re there, have fun with the Top 3 and a Corn-hole tournament. To register, contact Tech. Sgt. Christine Johnson at 567-5901.

Schriever Week concludes with the promotion ceremony at 3 p.m. on Sept. 30

“We've got some great activities planned that I hope everyone takes advantage of," said Burt.

“We wanted to include events that allowed the members of Schriever to take time to decompress, as well as to educate members on the history of Schriever and the missions that the 50th has been involved with in the past,” said Chrisman. “It has been a collaborative effort to plan the events for the week, we have gotten everyone involved from all of the private organizations on base.”

For further information or if you would like to volunteer, contact Chrisman at 567-5156.
