Retiree council hosts lunch 

Join other military retirees and military retiree spouses for lunch at noon Oct. 28, to meet Jeff Meier from the Defense Finance and Accounting Service.  Learn more about pay allotments, pay forms and how to improve your interactions with DFAS.  Want an update on what the Air Force Retiree Council discussed at the Summer 2016 annual Council meeting? Talk with John Lannefeld, our Area 4 representative to the Air Force Retiree Council.  Lunch costs $11. SCRAO hosts information day
The Southern Colorado Retiree Activities Office is hosting the 2016 Southern Colorado All Services Military Retiree/Military Retiree Spouse Information Day from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. Oct. 29 at the Peterson Air Force Base Club, Building 1013, 260 Glasgow Ave. The event will feature medical wellness checks, flu shots, dental checks, community and base information tables and ID card renewal. CGOC hosts 50 SW promotion ceremony
The CGOC is hosting the 50th Space Wing promotion ceremony this month 3 p.m. Oct. 31 in the base fitness center. Please join us in congratulating the new promotees.

 

Base winter clothes drive starts

Do you have any extra coats, hats, gloves, scarves or shoes in your closet?  If so, please join us in providing these essential winter items to Ellicott community children. Items will be collected until Nov. 3.  There are several drop boxes across the base for your convenience, including at the shopette, fitness center, north and west portals, dining facility, community housing and more. Boxes are only for coats, winter accessories and shoes.  There will be a porch pickup at base housing no later than noon Oct. 29. If you have any questions, or would like to volunteer to help sort or distribute, please contact Leslie Janaros at 703-986-7905.

Schriever holds Open Season Health Fair

Open Season for Federal Employee health and benefits and dental/vision insurance will run from Nov. 14 – Dec. 12. To help you prepare, Schriever will host the Open Season Health Fair from 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. Monday in the Building 210 atrium. There will be representatives from different insurance companies available to answer questions and provide forms and pamphlets to all Schriever civilian employees. 50 CPTS announces closures

The 50th Comptroller Squadron is closed for training the second Tuesday of each month starting in November. The dates are as follows: Nov. 8, Dec. 13, Jan. 10, 2017, Feb. 14, 2017 and Mar. 14, 2017.

 

CPO offers KEEP training for civilian supervisors
The Schriever Civilian Personnel Office is offering their next Knowledge Enhanced Employee Program class for supervisors of civilian employees from 8 a.m. – noon, Nov. 9 in Building 210 Room 310A. The class will cover topics such as filling positions, disciplinary actions, time/attendance, 971 files and awards. To sign up for this class, please contact Maggie Wander at 567-4351.

EO career field open for retraining

The Equal Opportunity career field is looking for Airmen and NCOs wishing to join. EO is currently seeking approximately 20 first term Airmen between now and July 1, 2017, for retraining. Scheduling for NCO retraining will occur at a later date. NCOs and Airmen are encouraged to coordinate with their career field managers before completing the 15-day observation period requirement to apply.  For more information, contact Master Sgt. Register for Green Dot training

Registration is open for Green Dot overview sessions (to meet the 2016 Sexual Assault Prevention and Response requirement). All personnel may register for an overview session on the FSS SharePoint site. If you initially get a "denied access" error, simply press the request access link in the bottom of the error box and you will receive an email when access is granted. Classes are offered 2 p.m. every Monday and Wednesday, and 9 a.m. every Friday in the Building 300 auditorium. Class sizes are limited to 50 personnel.

 

Schriever supports CFC, hosts Knockerball game

The Schriever Air Force Base Combined Federal Campaign runs until Nov. 15. The CFC is a once-a-year federal agency-wide campaign that gives federal employees and military members the opportunity to easily and securely donate to reputable charities of their choice via a one-time donation or convenient payroll deductions. The CFC consists of thousands of different charities. This week's cause of the week is civil rights, social action and advocacy. Please see your unit CFC representative to donate or visit www.rockymountaincfc.org and MyPay to make an online donation.

 

In addition there will be a CFC mid-campaign Air Force Front Range Knockerball championship 2 p.m. Nov. 10 at the synthetic turf field behind the Peterson fitness center.

 

Schriever housing offers family Christian fellowship  

A family Bible study will be held at the Tierra Vista Community Center 6:30-8 p.m. every Wednesday. Come join us for inspiring worship, Bible study and prayer. Families are welcome. Childcare and separate kids activities for 10 and under provided. For more information, contact 567-3705.

 

Schriever housing hosts women’s Bible study 

Come join us for a women’s Bible study held 9:30 – 11 a.m. every Tuesday at the Tierra Vista Community Center. There will be fellowship, Bible study and conversations about today's critical issues from a Christian perspective. For more information, call the chapel at 567-3705.

Comforter/Blanket Drive for the Homeless 

Be Real Ministries, Inc. along with Pikes Peak Lodge #5 will be distributing donated blankets to the Urban Peak homeless shelter and to the homeless at America the Beautiful park as the daily soup truck arrives on Dec. 23, 2016. Collection boxes will be available on base for new or used blankets/comforters Nov. 7 - Dec. 7. If you have any questions contact Dr. Nathaniel Granger at 719-229-6255.

 

Ellicott holds Veterans Day celebration  

The Ellicott Veterans Day celebration will be held at 2:30 p.m. Nov. 10 in the Ellicott High School Gymnasium, 375 S. Ellicott Highway. Doors will open and registration will begin at 2 p.m. We will recognize our community veterans and active-duty military for their service to our country.  If you are a veteran or are active-duty military and would like to be recognized, please RSVP your name, rank, branch of service and years of service to Laura Durst at 719-683-2700. Refreshments will be served after the celebration in the Ellicott High School Commons.

Military Retirees Activities Office holds monthly luncheon 

The Military Retiree Activities office holds a luncheon at noon the second Thursday of each month at the Peterson Air Force Base Club, followed by its monthly council meeting at 2:30 p.m. in Building 350, Room 1206.  The guest speaker for Nov. 10, 2016, will be Kent Mathews, family caregiver support coordinator, Area Agency on Aging.   Please call 719-556-7153 for more information.

 

50 SW hosts holiday party
You are cordially invited to the 50th Space Wing holiday party, "Glow in the Snow" neon event Dec. 2 at the Peterson Air Force Base Club. Come out and spread holiday cheer with Team 5-0. Enjoy live entertainment with our 2nd annual lip sync battle, amazing prizes and memorable times. Social hour begins at 5:30 p.m. and the party will start at 6:30 p.m. Tickets go on sale Nov. 1. 50 SW seeks holiday party lip sync battle teams

Think you have what it takes to be the next lip sync sensation? Well here is your chance.  We are now accepting entries for the Lip Sync Challenge going down at this year’s 50th Space Wing Holiday Party Dec. 2. We’re looking for four teams with up to five members to compete for the title of “50 SW Lip Sync Champion.” There is also going to be a final head-to-head competition with the winners taking home the grand prize.  Song appropriate attire and props are encouraged and two songs are needed for the head-to-head challenge. Society opens door to military widows  

The Society of Military Widows is open to widows of any branch of military service, regardless of the spouse’s rank. The Pikes Peak Chapter 15 of the Society of Military Widows meets 10:30 a.m. the last Wednesday of the month at the Peterson Air Force Base club. Academy cadet sponsor program looking for volunteers

The U.S. Air Force Academy is looking for volunteer sponsor families to build a professional mentoring relationship and provide a home-away-from-home for cadets. The program needs about 180 families to sponsor cadets. Sponsors must be at least O-3 for officers, E-6 for enlisted and GS-05 for civilian. The program is designed to provide new cadets mentorship, offering active-duty and retired military personnel and civilians in the community an opportunity to mentor cadets on a permanent basis for their time at the Academy.
