Lt. Col. Dan Burtz, 50th Operations Support Squadron commander, and his horse, Peponita, clear an obstacle in the Mounted Sabre event at the National Cavalry Competition, recently, at Ft. Reno, Okla.  Burtz placed second in this event and finished first overall for his class.  Burtz also competed in Military Horsemanship, Mounted Pistol and Jumping.  He is attired as a Mexican War Dragoon and won a first-place award for his portrayal of Col. Stephen Watts Kearny, who led the Army of the West into New Mexico in 1846.
