    Satellite operator takes silver in canopy piloting event

    A Reserve Citizen Airman and satellite vehicle operator for the 6th Space Operations Squadron flies more than just satellites when he participates in canopy piloting. The sport is a landing competition and the first spectator-friendly form of skydiving, also known as “swooping.”

    19th SOPS receives new commander

    The 19th Space Operations Squadron, a classic Reserve associate unit to the 2nd Space Operations Squadron, received a new commander on Sunday, June 3. The squadron performs launch, early-orbit, anomaly resolution and disposal operations for the Global Positioning Satellite constellation.

    A crew consisting of all Reserve Citizen Airmen from the 6th Space Operations Squadron at Schriever Air Force Base recently made history by achieving their 40,000th satellite contact. As part of the only space wing in the Air Force Reserve, the 310th Space Wing, 6 SOPS’ accomplishment signifies just how far the Reserve has come in space operations.

    The 310th Operations Support Squadron took Airman innovation and work ethic to new heights when they were nominated at the Air Force level for the prestigious 2016 Air Force Association Aerospace Award Citation of Honor.

    6 SOPS flies the COOP

    Once a year, members from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration travel from Suitland, Maryland, to Schriever AFB to work side-by-side with the 6th Space Operations Squadron for Continuity of Operations training. 6 SOPS, a Reserve squadron and part of the 310th Space Wing on Schriever, specializes in operating the Defense Meteorological Satellite Program satellites.
